August work
I spent most of the first half of this month pulling together a set of features for Defense Systems. The biggest of them was a cover story on the Defense Information Systems Agency’s roadmap for the DOD Global Information Grid (a hint: it’s all about cloud computing); this included covering DISA’s Forecast to Industry on Aug 7., and interviewing John Garing, DISA’s Director of Strategic Planning, and Bruce Bennett, the head of DISA’s Satcom, Teleport and Services program office.
I also did an interview for DS’s September issue with DISA’s CIO (which I actually finished up in late July), and wrote a feature on embedded systems in defense and a profile on an X-band satellite communications provider. I’ve also been working a story on the spectrum crunch for another publication that involved another DISA interview. And in final checks, an article on DISA’s plan to move forward with the next-generation command and control system for DOD.
Away from the world of defense, I also turned around early this month was an article on “downshifting” for TheLadders.
