Bob Denver of ‘Gilligan’ fame dies at 70:

Ah, there was many a morning I waited at the sitter’s for the school bus watching syndicated reruns of Gilligan’s Island and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. Gilligan, Maynard J. Krebs–these were my mass-media role models. Ah, to slack or bumble through life. It was a noble goal, no?

But Bob Denver is gone now. No more Returns to Gilligan’s Island for us. I was hoping, just hoping that they’d give him a walk-on in Lost….

Rest in Peace, Bob.

The NOLA View weblog is filled with requests for rescue–for the elderly, for caregivers, and for people who simply refuse to leave their animals behind to die.

I’m asking friends to give to the Red Cross, or, thinking more long-term here, to Habitat for Humanity to help the victims of Katrina. When everyone is finally rescued, they’ll need someplace to live, and few will be able to afford to rebuild a home on their own.

Please take a look at Glenn Reynolds’ roundup of charities helping Katrina victims and find one to give to.
